Module 1

Workshop 1: Goal setting

Goal setting equals success.  The session was designed for entrepreneurs to understand the power of setting clear goals.

It is also used as a template to create your company vision beginning with the end goal in mind.  This application is suitable for short and long term planning.

Goals keep an entrepreneur focussed when plans go wrong and unanticipated events occur, or assessed timing is wrong.  Students are taught to refer back to their goals, re-set them if necessary to keep on track.

Goal setting is the tool that beginnings to build that key part of entrepreneurship that is difficult to build… “Resilience”

Workshop 2: What’s the big idea?

M.O.I led (model of industries), successful entrepreneurs have the right idea at the right time. Case studies of success and failure are studied by the students. Was the good idea too early? Were you too late? Are you at the right time in the business cycle?

Workshop 3: Research

So, you have a great idea: what next?

Do you know if you are unique?

Do you know the size of the market?

Do you know who your ideal target is?

Do you know which geographical area you want to reach?

What is your route to market/delivery?

Do you have competition: if so, who are they and what are they doing?

Research helps students to understand the viability of their idea and how to market it.

Workshop 4: Test

If the idea is viable, it needs testing.  MVP (minimal viable product) is a modern concept.  Using case studies such as Apple, students will learn how to get something up and running with minimal viability and test what works, what doesn’t and what needs modifying whilst on the market. After the test an S.W.O.T analysis will be completed to assess feedback and improve product or services

Key Learnings: All candidates will create product or service in its most minimalist form at minimal cost and present to group.

Module 2

Workshop 5: Company Set Up

How to set up a company legally?  Do you need to be limited? Do you need an accountant? How and when do you file accounts? Who are your directors? What shares do you need to issue? How much does it cost? How long does it take? What is Companies House?

Module 6: Create a Business Plan

A good business plan is an art: it is the difference between obtaining funding and loans or failing.  Does the business start-up have relevant experience or talent? What is the background behind the idea, the market conditions? What is the USP? Who is the target? Why is this product or service needed? How much will it cost? How much revenue is estimated over a period of time?

The workshop helps students to create a clear and easy to read plan that will impress any crowd funding organisation or business angel

Workshop 7: Funding

How to find money to get your business off the ground! Bank Loan, Angel Funding, Crowd Funding, Social Bonds, Government Contracts? They are all major opportunities to fund your business. But were and how do you find funding? How do you pitch successfully in a limited amount of time?

Module 3

Workshop 8: Digital Media and Marketing

If no one has heard of you, you will fail.  Digital media and marketing is vital.  Get the name out.  Obtain followers.  Let them know they have a need and show them how that need is met.  Students will learn the essentials to this vital ‘trend marketing communications tool’ so that they have a strong foundation to build on.

After session all candidates will have a thorough understanding of social media and the tools available to manage platforms. They will create a fictional marketing campaign based around a trend and how to track the KPIS of marketing.

Workshop 9: Outsourcing

A small enterprise can look bigger and be more professional by not doing everything oneself.  Outsource your needs.  Become the client.  Cost for it and put a margin on it.  They do the work, you make the profit.

Outcomes: The world is much smaller due to the easier ways of communicating globally ….and individuals and small organisations can outsource production or work that they struggle to achieve

The Key Learnings Exploration & decision on what team you require and the benefits of outsourcing to keep costs down; Introduction to websites that you can find people to achieve tasks at the fraction of the price.

Workshop 10: Websites

The modern brochure is your website. The first thing anyone you pitch to, meet or network with will do is look you up on the web.  First impressions count.  Copy is vital. Your messages need to be clear, your visuals compelling and selling.  How much will it cost?  Who will create a good trend marketing site and will you be able to update it? How do you SEO your site, what content should you update it with and how often?
